Why Eagle Ridge is the Best Community for My Family (and Possibly Yours)

Living in Eagle Ridge

Eagle Ridge is a great community. It has so much to offer from the Birchwood walking trails to the early years schools and community centre.

Moving to Fort McMurray from a big city (where we barely new our neighbours) to a small, close-knit community has been a great experience for my family.

We moved into Eagle Ridge when homes were still being built and the 2 schools and the community centre were merely piles of dirt. Six years later, the community is close to being completed with its last section (Eagle Ridge Commons) under construction with a new Landmark Cinema, restaurants, shops and services.

Our community has so much to offer a family, whether young and just starting out or getting close to retirement, there is something for people of all ages!

Having the largest pond in Fort McMurray to walk around and enjoy is a great way to get some exercise and, if you are a nature lover, the ducks arrive in the spring and stay through to early fall. Then there are the foxes playing in the winter! You won't find a better place, in my opinion, to meet up with neighbours, say hi to someone new to town or just take in the scenery.

My family is fortunate enough to back onto the pond so it is enjoyed daily from our deck in the warmer weather or the window in the cooler seasons. I’ve seen many beautiful summer sunsets from my deck overlooking the pond and my neighbours across the street have seen some spectacular sunrises!

Walk only a few minutes around the pond and go up to Loutit Drive, then you’ll find yourself at my favourite restaurant: East Village Pub...then onto plenty of shopping, such as: Drop Dead Darlings Ladies Clothing, Sangsters Organic Market, Oranj Fitness, Color Me Mine Pottery, Village Meats & Spice Bazaar, a Barber Shop, The Personal Florist, a liquor store, Mucho Burrito, Tim Horton’s, a convenience store, dry cleaners, the Medical Shoppe drug store, dental office and a doctor’ office! So convenient!

If you are a young family wanting to live close to early-year schools, then Eagle Ridge is the perfect place with Walter and Gladys Hill Public School and St. Kateri Catholic School. Between the two schools, you will find Eagle Ridge Community Centre where many events take place year-round, such as craft markets and programs for fitness. There is also an outdoor play structure!

In June, a block party was held in the lower part of Eagle Ridge where families were able to meet new neighbours and say hi to those who have made Eagle Ridge their community from the beginning. My understanding is that the block party will be held every year – something to look forward to!

If you are looking to move to a part of our city that has everything in it, and is very close to the highway, then Eagle Ridge is the community for you!
